Hey 👋🏾. A warm welcome to our fellow jewelry enthusiasts and curious minds! Today, we're diving into the world of Tibetan agate, also known as dZi agate. Education and honesty are essential in our jewelry business. We believe it's essential to share details of the materials we work with. Tibetan (dZi) agate is a gemstone that's not only visually captivating but also steeped in history and mystique. So, let's explore this unique gemstone together.

The full history of Tibetan (dZi) agate is unknown. The stones date back as far as 2500 B.C. Some sources say the stones were originally found in India and brought to Tibet, while others say they were originally discovered in Tibet.

Tibetan (dZi) agate is named after its (believed) place of discovery - the breathtaking region of Tibet. This land, nestled in the Himalayas, is known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Tibetan (dZi) agate is found in various parts of Tibet and the neighboring Himalayan regions, including Nepal and Bhutan. These regions are renowned for their mineral-rich landscapes, making them ideal locations for the mining of this captivating gemstone.

Tibetan (dZi) agate is known for its decorative symbols composed of circles, ovals, squares, waves or zig zags, stripes, lines, diamonds, and dots. Colors mainly range from brown to black, with the pattern usually in ivory white. Sometimes the natural patterns of the agate can be seen underneath the decorative symbols and designs. The mesmerizing patterns and bands within the stone make it a favorite among jewelry artisans. It is unknown how ancient people created these symbols and patterns on the beads.

Ancient Tibetan (dZi) agate beads are rare and extremely expensive. Present day Tibetan (dZi) beads (what we use) are made from agate stone but are carved, drilled, and polished by machine.

Tibetan (dZi) agate holds great cultural significance in the region. It is believed that it promotes balance, harmony, and protection. The various markings on the beads are believed to give them different properties.

As with any metaphysical claims, it's important to approach them with an open mind and your own beliefs. Whether or not you subscribe to these ideas, Tibetan agate undeniably carries a unique allure that can be appreciated on a purely aesthetic level.
