Let's Talk About Beads 101: Selenite

Welcome back to the latest installment of Let's Talk About Beads 101. We'll be diving into Selenite. 

Selenite is a variety of gypsum, which is a type of evaporite mineral. Evaporite minerals are significant indicators of past environmental conditions. These minerals are studied to provide insight into ancient climates, water chemistry, and geological processes. 

Selenite is most often found in Brazil, Greece, Mexico, Argentina, Poland, Australia, Russia, Greece, and the United States. 

Selenite is most often associated with wisdom and spirituality. Selenite is also often attributed to purity and peace.

Selenite forms as white, translucent crystals with striations. It is a soft stone, with a Mohs hardness rating of 2, so it must be handled with care. It should be stored in a soft pouch, separately from other stones and hard materials. Avoid submerging or rinsing selenite in water as it is water soluble.
