Caring for your stainless steel jewelry

Welcome to our latest blog post. Our blog covers topics relevant to handmade jewelry and running a small, handmade jewelry business. We cover a range of topics under these general umbrellas. We hope you like what we write and find it useful 🙂.

For this blog entry, we are continuing our current "theme" of providing jewelry care tips. While we love creating beautiful jewelry and could leave it at just that, we also want our creations to last for a long time. Therefore, we thought it only right that we provide you with important information about cleaning and maintaining your jewelry.

We use a variety of materials to make our jewelry and not all materials can be cared for the same way. It can be quite overwhelming trying to remember the details for cleaning each type of jewelry. This is why we have chosen to create individual posts for the different materials. We have also created an entire page on our website that is devoted to providing information on Jewelry Care. As we continue to add posts regarding the care of your jewelry, we will update that page with the links to the specific posts.

Now, let's get on to the good stuff!

This post will be focusing on caring for your stainless steel jewelry. Stainless steel jewelry is strong, durable, and cost-effective. Stainless steel is hypoallergenic. It is also rust-resistant and easy to clean.

Over time, stainless steel jewelry can become dull from scratches and pollution. Stainless steel jewelry should be cleaned immediately after exposure to excessive grease, dirt, or harsh chemicals. Cleaning stainless steel jewelry is fairly easy and can be done with common household items.

Stainless steel jewelry that contains gemstones and/or pearls should only be cleaned with soap and water. Follow these steps below:

  1. Add two or three drops of mild dishwashing liquid to a small bowl filled with warm water. Stir the mixture gently.
  2. Fill a second bowl with plain warm water.
  3. Submerge the jewelry and leave it to soak for five minutes.
  4. Gently scrub any stubborn crud with a soft-bristled toothbrush, paying close attention to grooves.
  5. Rinse the jewelry in the second bowl of water.
  6. Use a lint-free microfiber cloth or a jeweler's polishing cloth to dry and buff the jewelry.

Note: Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads on stainless steel jewelry as these can scratch the surface. Do not expose stainless steel jewelry to harsh chemicals or saltwater, as this can cause damage.
