Radiance: A Reflection on Individuality and Self-Love

Hey 👋🏾. Welcome to the latest installment of Delightful Gems. I'm taking a slight pause from the Let's Talk About Beads series this time around. I recently released the Radiance Collection and I wanted to share some thoughts about the inspiration for this collection. I also wanted to share a bit about my thought process when I'm creating as well as where I find myself in this creative journey. 

As I have explored my creativity through making jewelry, I have noticed one thing in particular that I keep going back to. I have consistently been drawn to the bold, unusual, and dynamic. From early on, I knew that I wanted to create for the people who don't typically get the attention. In the very beginning, that meant creating for my fellow nurses and medical professionals. I eventually expanded to include teachers and paraprofessionals. Along the way, I determined that I was meant to create for people who don't fit into a predefined box. Hell, I don't fit into any one box and I know there has to be countless others like me out there. That is who I want to celebrate with my jewelry. 

As we journey through life, we often find ourselves in pursuit of acceptance, validation, and fitting into predefined molds. We beat ourselves up if/when we are not where we think we should be based on some arbitrary benchmark set for us by random people/entities. We struggle with trying to define ourselves in a few simple words. What if I told you that true beauty lies not in conformity, but in embracing our individuality? What if I told you that imperfections are not flaws to be hidden, but unique traits to be celebrated? 

At the heart of the Radiance collection lies a celebration of rich colors, textures, and the juxtaposition of hard and soft. Each piece is a testament to the beauty found in diversity, both in our jewelry and within ourselves. Just as the intricate patterns and textures of our semiprecious gemstone beads and African recycled glass beads come together to create something truly remarkable, so too do our own experiences, quirks, and passions shape the unique tapestry of our lives.

In a world that often tries to dictate who we should be and how we should look, it's easy to lose sight of our own radiance. But here's the kicker: true radiance shines from within. It is the spark of joy that ignites when we embrace our true selves wholeheartedly and unapologetically. I chose to name my latest collection Radiance because I wanted to evoke thoughts of brilliance, happiness, confidence, and being special. 

Embracing individuality is about honoring the quirks that make us who we are. It's about loving the parts of ourselves that society may deem as "imperfect" and recognizing them as the very things that make us special.

Just like the unique imperfections found in each bead of our Radiance collection, our own perceived flaws are what make us stand out from the crowd. They tell the story of our journey, our resilience, and our capacity for growth. So let's celebrate those so-called imperfections as badges of honor, reminders of our strength, and testaments to our authenticity.

Let this post be your reminder to embrace your own radiance – unapologetically. Remember, you are worthy of love, acceptance, and happiness. You do not need to conform to anyone's idea of who you should be. Embrace your radiance, celebrate your uniqueness, and dare to shine brightly in a world that so desperately needs your light.
